Story Workshop Targets Youth With A New
Program, Timasukirane
13 February 2007 -- With support from
the National Aids Commission
of Malawi, Story Workshop has embarked on Timasukirane, ("Let's
Talk Openly") a radio-based HIV/AIDS communications initiative.
Timasikurane targets young people with two radio shows -- one soap

Story Workshop Receives Grant from American
Embassy for Human Rights & Democracy Project
27 September, 2006 - Story Workshop has
received a grant from the American Embassy in Malawi's Human Rights
and Democracy Fund to produce radio jingles on civic dialogue and
participation. The project aims to increase knowledge and spark
dialogue about human rights and political participation within across

Workshop Action Theatre & Low-Literacy Prints Draw Crowds in
Villages

September, 2006 - This month, Story Workshop's team of social mobilizers
for the EU
Rural Development Communications Campaign visit all of Story
Workshop's 22 Radio Listening Clubs around the country. While there,
they are facilitating action theatre performances in villages to
help get villagers actively involved in food security issues facing
their areas. Photographer Arjen van der Merwe recently captured
two days of village visits, which included distribution of agricultural
low-literacy prints, small-group discussions and action theatre
rehearsals and performances.

Story Workshop's Radio Drama Featured
on BBC

August, 2006 - This week, the BBC's show "A World in Your Ear,"
hosted by Rosie Goldsmith, featured Story Workshop's year-long short
drama program focused on children's rights in partnership with Plan
Malawi.
Listen to the show here, which includes a clip featuring Vera,
a young Malawian girl with nightmares, and John, the servant who
tries to convince Vera he can "cure" her nightmares by

Story Workshop Takes HIV Testing
Messages to the People - and the Streets - During HIV Testing and
Awareness Week
02 August, 2006 - Daphne Gondwe’s husband was sick
– and getting sicker. It was the late1990s in Malawi, and
Daphne thought she knew the cause: HIV. She tried to convince her
husband to go for an HIV test, but he refused. At this time, the
stigma against having HIV was so great that many people preferred
not to know whether they were positive.
