In Malawi, short programs and musical jingles are cost-effective and popular ways of publicizing important issues. These short clips of 1-5 minutes in length can illustrate behavior change messages in a short period of time.
Examples of short programs include:
Chipamaso: Eye Blinder
Chiphamaso, which means eye blinder, was a short campaign to discourage corruption from people that were campaigning for positions in parliament during the the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections. The short programs encouraged the electorate not to be cheated by people who gave them money and gifts just because the elections were coming.
Malawi Teacher Training Activity
We produced a 36-episode radio drama of five-minutes each on HIV/Aids for the Malawi Teacher Training Activity in which we dealt with relationships between teachers and the girls in school in relation to HIV/Aids. These radio drama sketches were also used by would-be teachers while they were in college.
