Since their inception in 2002, Story Workshop advocacydebates have demonstrated their impact to influence decision-makers. Once the debates were established, local media quickly began to cover them, running feature articles and radio news bulletins highlighting the arguments and propelling the issues further into the public domain.
To increase the incentive for public coverage, Story Workshop developed media awards competitions. These competitions award prizes to journalists who most effectively put a “human face” on the issues through their coverage of the issues raised by the debates.
The competitions promote investigative reporting and creative feature writing skills and encourage public analysis and deeper community understanding of development issues. To support their investigative research, Story Workshop also organizes research field trips for journalists.
